This presentation will briefly discuss recommendations for the safe prescribing and use of opioids, including maximizing non-opioid therapy. Recommended opioid conversion guidelines will be presented. Patient cases will highlight areas of opportunity for opioid rotation and will include cases involving methadone, opioid infusions, and opioid-sparing medications.

This webinar will review available inhaled formulations and drug delivery devices for commonly experienced symptoms. Correlations between disease progression and medication appropriateness will be reviewed. Patient cases will highlight the need for deprescribing and formulation rotations. A special emphasis will be placed on metered dose inhalers (MDI) and dry power inhalers (DPI).

This webinar will discuss the basics of a Palliative Care Program. This will include a general overview of how to get a program started, billing, marketing, staffing, regulatory compliance, data analysis and more. Participants will understand what is needed to start a program and steps to take their program to the next level.

This session will provide an overview of palliative sedation and how to appropriately utilize this therapy for terminally ill patients with refractory physical symptoms. Position statements and case studies will be reviewed. This session will also review patient assessment, prognostication, and the ethical concerns associated with palliative sedation. Lastly, medication classes commonly used in palliative sedation therapy will be discussed.

Many patients nearing death experience delirium and agitation. This presentation will define these common symptoms and review how they may be indicative of prognosis. Additionally, reversible causes, nonpharmacologic interventions, and pharmacologic interventions will be discussed. Palliative sedation will also be presented as a treatment option for refractory agitation.
